: My interest in amateur radio began back around 1977. I had a high school teacher who was a ham. He knew that I was interested in electronics and thought that I would make a "good" ham. One day, out of the blue, he brought an old Knight Space Spanner shortwave radio to school and gave it to me with instructions to listen and learn. The bug bit. I began the study regimen for the novice test but got sidelined with school then eventually marriage, work and other things.
I ended up getting my first ticket in 1992 (better late than never). With a foot in the door, I decided to learn the code and try to upgrade. Testing was to be done in two weeks so I was on a mission! I passed my code test and I was on my way down (or up) the upgrade trail.
My interest is primarily DX. I enjoy ragchewing with local hams but there aren't many on HF in my area. I like to see my equipment perform and enjoy getting that last bit of performance out of what is fairly modest equipment by today's standards. Thanks for looking up my callsign.
